Owlz Announce 2018 Coaching Staff

Familiar faces will join the Owlz field staff this season

Orem, UT - February 1, 2018 - The Owlz have released their 2018 coaching staff. David Stapleton will be returning as the head coach of the Owlz after spending last season with the Angel's Arizona League. Stapleton will be joined on staff by pitching coach Michael Wuertz, pitching coach Tyler Anderson, hitting coach Manny Del Campo, and hitting coach Daniel Ortega.
Stapleton will be returning to the Owlz after spending last season with the Angel's Arizona League. Stapleton managed the Owlz from 2014-2016. Under Stapleton, the Owls made multiple playoff appearances and won the Pioneer League championship in 2016. Prior to joining the Owlz, Stapleton pitched for the Brewers and coach and Grand Canyon University.
Wuertz was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 1997. Wuertz went on to play eight seasons as a pitcher in the MLB. He played for the Cubs from 2004-2008 and for the Oakland A's from 2009-2011. Wuertz was a pitching coach for the Inland Empire 66ers in 2016.
Anderson will also be a pitching coach for the Owlz during the 2018 season. A native of Australia, Anderson played professionally for the Perth Heat and for the Australian National Team in the Asia Series. Anderson also coached at Lindenwood University, St. Louis University, and for the U18 Australian National Team.
Del Campo played seven seasons as a minor league catcher. Del Campo was a hitting coach for the Owlz in 2017. 
Ortega will be joining the Angels for the first time in his career. Prior to joining the Owlz, Ortega was with the Astros organization. Most recently, Ortega was bench and hitting coach for Class A Short Season Tri-City. Ortega spent five seasons as the coach of the the Astros Dominican Summer League teams. Ortega was a catcher in the Colorado Rockies' minor league system from 1999-2002.
The Owlz season will begin on Friday, June 15 in Grand Junction. The first home game will be on Thursday, June 21 at 7:05 against the Ogden Raptors. To purchase season tickets or ticket packs, call 801-377-BALL (2255) or visit goowlz.com. Single game tickets will go on sale in May.
