The Palm Beach Cardinals wasted no time getting on the scoreboard on Friday night, scoring four, first inning runs vs. Jupiter which is all they would need in a 4-2 victory.
Chase Pinder hit an infield single and scored on the same play in a bizzare scenerio. An errant throw scored Justin Toerner who started the play at first base and allowed Pinder to get all the way to third base. However, another errant throw trying to throw Pinder out at third was wild and the second-year Palm Beach Cardinal strolled home after the ball landed in the dugout.
After a Luken Baker single, Yariel Gonzalez hit a two run homer to right field, his first of the season and first by any Palm Beach hitter.
On the mound, starter Edgar Gonzalez was stellar, striking out nine and allowing just three hits and no walks in five strong innings. His only blemish was a two-run first inning in which Jupiter recorded all three hits.
Gonzalez and the relivers consisting of Kodi Whitley, Patrick Dayton, and Bryan Dobzanski no-hit the Hammerheads throughout the final eight innings while striking out 15 total batters.
Nick Dunn and Yariel Gonzalez both had two hits and outfielder Justin Toener has now reached base safely in seven of his first nine plate appearances.
The teams will flip places on the scorebaord on Saturday as the Cardinals play role of the guest against the Hammerheads at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Tickets and more information can be found at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
