JUPITER, FL – On "Jackie Robinson Day" at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex, the Palm Beach Cardinals (7-3) defeated the Clearwater Threshers (6-4) by a final score of 10-5 on Tuesday night at Holman Stadium in Vero Beach, Florida. Reigning FSL Player of the Week Josh Kross led the Palm Beach offense hitting for the cycle with six RBIs and three runs scored.

The Cardinals continued to take advantage of first-inning runs with Tuesday's game being no exception. With runners at first and second base with one out, Kross roped a two-RBI triple, and later scored on a balk, to give Palm Beach a 3-0 lead.

The score remained until Clearwater got on the scoreboard the top of the fourth inning when Brady Day hit an RBI triple to cut the Palm Beach lead to 3-1.

Cardinals starting pitcher Brandt Thompson (W, 1-0) fired five innings and allowed just one run on four hits and struck out three batters in what finished as his first professional win.

After a couple of innings of zeroes on the board for both squads, Palm Beach erupted for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning highlighted by a three-run home run by Kross to make it 7-1 in favor of the Beach Birds. The cardinals added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning with an RBI single from Kross and a two-RBI double by LUIS PINO to take a commanding 10-1 lead.

The Threshers had their biggest scoring inning in the top of the eighth as they scored four runs and brought nine men to the plate to make it a 10-5 Cardinals lead, but Palm Beach capped the game there to secure the series-opening victory on Tuesday night.

In addition to Kross, Travis Honeyman finished 3-for-3 with two walks and scored three runs in the victory.
