JUPITER, FL – The Palm Beach Cardinals (7-4) fell behind early and could not catch up to the Clearwater Threshers (7-4) as Palm Beach suffered the 7-1 loss on Wednesday night back at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. For Palm Beach, their three-game win streak also came to an end with the loss.

The Threshers got the scoring started in the top of the first inning off of Palm Beach starting pitcher Leonel Sequera. Aroon Escobar led off with a double to right field and two batters later Eduardo Tait drove him in on an RBI single to give Clearwater the early 1-0 lead. The Threshers added two more runs in the top of the second inning on an RBI single by Kodey Shojinaga and an RBI triple by Avery Owusu-Asiedu to extend the Clearwater lead to 3-0.

Palm Beach scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning against Clearwater starting pitcher Ranger Suarez, who was making an MLB rehab appearance for the Philadelphia Phillies. Travis Honeyman led off the frame with a triple and Cade McGee drove in Honeyman on an RBI single as the Cardinals cut the deficit to 3-1. Palm Beach unfortunately left two men in scoring position against Suarez in the inning.

Sequera finished his third start of the season with four innings pitched and allowed three runs on six hits with one walk and struck out four hitters in his first loss of the season.

Against Palm Beach reliver Angel Cuenca in the top of the fifth, Tait hit a sacrifice fly to answer back with another run and make it a 4-1 deficit for Palm Beach. Cuenca ran into more trouble in the top of the sixth as three more runs scored for Clearwater and made it a 7-1 ball game.

After the sixth inning, the Clearwater bullpen shut down the Cardinals’ hopes of a comeback and the Cardinals fell 7-1 on Wednesday night.

Honeyman finished 2-for-4 with a triple and the only run scored for Palm Beach. Randel Clemente put his best pitching performance of the season with 2 1/3 scoreless innings and three strikeouts.
