The Palm Beach Cardinals nearly saw its 7-6 lead fly away in the ninth inning against Clearwater, but were able to get former first overall draft pick Mickey Moniak to strike out looking with the bases loaded.
With a three run lead in the ninth, Clearwater loaded the bases with two outs and followed with a walk and infield single.
Johan Mieses put the Cardinals on the board first with his sixth home run of the season in the second inning. Ryan McCarvel hit a sacrifice fly later in the frame to make it a 2-0 ballgame.
Clearwater took the lead in the next half inning, putting up four runs in the third inning on an RBI ground-rule double by Adam Haseley followed by two consecutive RBI singles and a bases loaded walk.
Palm Beach responded with a five spot in the fourth. Juan Yepez, Chase Pinder, and Taylor Bryant all hit RBI singles. Billings then reached on an error that scored Pinder, extending the Cardinals' lead to 7-4.
Austin Sexton flourished out of the bullpen, tossing 3 2/3 scoreless innings. He allowed just one hit and struck out four in that span. He was relieved by Jacob Patterson who was equally as dominant. The lefty threw 1 2/3 scoreless frames and allows just one baserunner.
Danny Hudzina and Chase Pinder both had a multi-hit game and five different Cardinals recorded an RBI.
