Palm Beach started off its six-game homestand with its 50th victory of the season after defeating Lakeland on Monday night 4-3.
The Cardinals struck some two-out magic in the third inning and were on the scoreboard first. With runners on second and third, Andy Young hit a two-RBI triple into the gap. J.B. Woodman, up next in a lefty-on-lefty matchup, hit a bullet through the opposite side of the infield to bring home Young and give Palm Beach a 3-0 lead.
Casey Meisner was cruising through the first five innings, not allowing the Flying Tigers to get on the board. In the sixth, apparently Isaac Paredes kept the ball fair enough, long enough for his hit to be a home run. It was the only blemish on Meisner's final line that included 6 1/3 innings of three run (one earned) baseball. He allowed four hits and struck out five en route to his fifth victory of the season.
Palm Beach scored an important insurance run in the sixth on a sac-fly off the bat of Ryan McCarvel
In relief, Yeison Medina threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings followed by Eric Carter's scoreless ninth. Carter recorded his second save of the season.
The teams will enjoy some afternoon baseball on Tuesday with first pitch set for 12:00 PM. It's splash day at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium which includes water balloons, huge water slides and much much more.
