Despite not recording their first hit until the fifth inning, the Cardinals offense rallied for five runs which was more than enough as Palm Beach shutout Tampa for the second time in less than 24 hours en route to a 5-0 victory.
Starter Perry DellaValle shined under the sun, throwing five shutout innings allowing just two hits and not walking a batter. He threw 51 of his 79 pitches for strikes and recorded his sixth straight start allowing two or less runs.
In the fifth, Michael Perri recorded the Cardinals' first hit of the day, a one out single. He was followed by a Bryce Denton walk. With runners on first and second base, Rayder Ascanio hit a ground ball to the opposite side of the field that got through to the outfield and allowed Perri to score.
The very next inning, Palm Beach rallied for extra insurance runs with two outs. Zach Kirtley started the inning off with a single and reached second with two outs after a wild pitch. Julio Rodriguez hit an RBI double and Nick Dunn and Perri were both hit by pitches to load the bases. A second wild pitch brought home Rodriguez and moved the two runners up who both scored on Denton's RBI double. Denton reached base three times total, walking twice.
Out of the bullpen, Mitchell Osnowit tossed 1 2/3 scoreless frames and was relieved by Ramon Santos who threw the final 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
The Cardinals moved to first place for the time being and sit just half a game in front of Ft. Myers who will play their Thursday game at 6:30 PM.
Palm Beach will welcome Bradneton to Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium for a three game series beginning on Friday at 6:30 pm. Tickets and more info can be found at Rogerdeanchevroletstadium.com
