Despite getting on the scoreboard first, Palm Beach fell behind and a late rally wasn't enough in a 4-3 loss to Daytona.
Ryan McCarvel's 412 foot home run was his fifth of the season and gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead in the opening frame.
Palm Beach starter Evan Guillory struggled early, but the defense bailed him out. In the first three innings, the Cardinals defense turned a double play. After catching a fly ball in the first and third innings respectively, Scott Hurst and Dylan Carlson each threw out a runner at the plate to keep the Tortugas off the scoreboard. Guillory induced a ground ball double play in the second inning.
Daytona still got on the board in the second with a single run and then tied the game in the fourth on Brantley Bell's seventh homer of the season.
Guillory would last 4 1/3 innings as he gave up two earned runs on nine hits and four walks while striking out two.
Out of the bullpen, Colton Thomson struck out four in his two scoreless innings pitched.
Daytona took the lead in the eighth, scoring two runs off Yeison Medina who went 1 2/3 innings.
Palm Beach had the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom half of the eighth. Irving Lopez worked a full-count into a walk, cutting the deficit to 4-3. Juan Yepez then grounded out to end the inning.
After Jacob Patterson threw a perfect ninth inning, Kramer Robertson hit a two-out double off the wall in left in the bottom of the ninth giving the Cardinals one last chance. Dylan Carlson hit a ground ball to first and was out on a close play as Daytona's first baseman Bruce Yari had to slide to ensure he'd get to the bag first.
Kramer Robertson had a team high three hits with Carlson and McCarvel each adding two more base knocks and a walk each.
Carlson has been hitting the ball well and has an OBP of .435 over his last ten games.
