Behind strong pitching and timely hitting, the Palm Beach Cardinals (9-5) defeat the Lakeland Flying Tigers (9-5) by a final score of 6-1 on Saturday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. With the win and a Jupiter loss, the Cardinals hold sole possession of first place in the FSL East Division.

The Palm Beach offense once again got the scoring started again tonight. In the bottom of the first inning, Kade Kretzschmar singled and Jose Cordoba walked with one out. Then, Ross Friedrick drove in Kretzschmar with an RBI single. Miguel Villarroel followed that with an RBI fielder's choice to make it 2-0 Beach Birds after one inning. The Cardinals added one more in the bottom of the second inning with a Cordoba RBI single to make it 3-0.

In the meantime, Palm Beach starting pitcher Chen-Wei Lin (W, 1-1) earned his first career professional win by tossing five shutout innings and allowed two hits, two walks, and a hit batter while striking out eight batters.

The Cardinals were not done offensively on the night. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Palm Beach added two more as Chase Davis notched an RBI double and Trey Paige hit a sacrifice fly to make it 5-0. Cordoba would add another RBI to his day in the bottom of the seventh inning with a single scoring Kretzschmar to make it 6-0.

Lakeland would only get one run in the ballgame with a solo home run from Max Clark in the top of the eighth inning but the scoring stopped there with Palm Beach claiming the 6-1 victory.

Cordoba finished 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Kretzschmar went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Ettore Giulanelli tossed two shutout innings in relief with two walks and two strikeouts and has thrown 8 1/3 innings without allowing a run to being the season.

Palm Beach will conclude their series against Lakeland on Sunday, April 21 with first pitch scheduled for noon.
