Clearwater, behind a solid outing from MLB's No. 25 overall prospect (According to MLB Pipeline) Sixto Sanchez, nearly shut out the Palm Beach offense in a 7-1 final.
The Cardinals lone run was from a Johan Mieses solo home run in the fifth.
Besides that blemish, Sanchez was nearly flawless for Clearwater. The 19-year-old threw six innings and allowed just that lone run on three hits while striking out 10. It was the most strikeouts by an opposing pitcher this season. The 14 total strikeouts by Palm Beach batters was also the highest mark of the season.
In his first start for Palm Beach, Jake Walsh settled in after a rough first inning that saw two runners score. The right-handed pitcher from Indialantic, FLA. threw five innings and allowed three runs while striking out two.
After scoring two runs in the opening frame, Clearwater scored single runs in the fourth, seventh and eighth innings before putting a three spot up in the top of the ninth.
Kramer Roberts had two of the Cardinals' five hits on the night.
J.B.Woodman, Brian O'Keefe, and Juan Yepez also recorded singles.
The teams will play game three of the four game series tomorrow night at 5:30 PM. Tickets can be purchased at Rogerdeanchevroletstadium.com/tickets-events
