With Major League Baseball's renewed focus on the global expansion of the game and the growing Finnish population on Staten Island, we've decided to bring some international flavor here to the melting pot of America. In recognition of the 300th anniversary of the Battle of Helsinki of the Great Northern War, the Staten Island Yankees will flip the script and play a game of pesäpallo, the Finnish version of baseball, right here in St. George against the Hudson Valley Renegades on Thursday, July 6. To make the game as realistic as possible, the grounds crew of the Baby Bombers will redesign Richmond County Bank Ballpark's field to reflect the unique field used in pesäpallo. Slight modifications to the field are already underway to accommodate this one-of-a-kind experience. Alterations are not expected to hinder the play of baseball in any way.
