Despite a four-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning the Tri-City Dust Devils (6-11, 24-31) lost 8-5 on Sunday night to the Hillsboro Hops (10-7, 34,-21). Tri-City starting pitcher Adrian Martinez delivered his most impressive performance of the season, tossing five scoreless innings against the Hops.
A costly inning proved to be the difference in the game. Hillsboro hit a pair of two-run home runs and scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning. Tucupita Marcano had a standout performance at the plate in the loss. In his fourth game with the Dust Devils, Marcano had three hits, including a triple in the ninth inning.
Right-hander Cole Bellinger will start the series finale for Tri-City on Monday. The Hops will counter with right-hander Matt Tabor. It will be a Coca-Cola Monday at Gesa Stadium, where all 22 oz.
