Rumble Ponies Drop Series Finale at Portland, Snap Eight-Game Winning Streak

PORTLAND, ME – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (18-13) fell in the series finale to the Portland Sea Dogs, 4-2, at Hadlock Field on Sunday afternoon and snapped their eight-game winning streak. The Ponies won the series, 5-1.
The eight-game winning streak was tied for Binghamton’s longest regular-season winning streak since 2017, when it won eight-straight games to close out the regular season.
Portland (17-14) got on the board in the first inning. Roman Anthony led off with a double against Tyler Stuart. Later in the frame, Kyle Teel hit an RBI single that scored Anthony to give Portland a 1-0 lead.
With two outs in the fourth inning, Kevin Parada hit a game-tying solo homer off of Zach Penrod, on an 0-2 count that made the score 1-1. It marked Parada’s fourth home run of the season and second of the series. He drove in seven runs over the last three games.
In the fifth inning, Phillip Sikes hit a two-out single and Marcelo Mayer eventually hit a go-ahead RBI single that gave Portland a 2-1. Stuart allowed two runs on four hits over five innings and issued two walks with three strikeouts. He threw 67 pitches and 43 strikes.
In the top of the seventh inning, Mateo Gil belted a game-tying solo homer off of Jacob Webb (3-0), to make it 2-2. It marked Gil’s first home run of the season.
In the bottom of the seventh, Alex Binelas led off with a walk against Andre Scrubb (0-1) and then Sikes belted a go-ahead two-run home run to give Portland a 4-2 lead.
The Rumble Ponies will open a six-game series with the Bowie Baysox (Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles) at Mirabito Stadium on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on WNBF News Radio 1290 & 92.1 FM and MiLB.TV.
Postgame Notes: Parada drove in eight runs in the series…Brandon McIlwain went 2-for-3 with two singles and recorded his sixth multi-hit game…Rowdey Jordan went 2-for-4 with a double and a single and recorded his fifth multi-hit game…Cam Robinson walked two batters over a hitless and scoreless inning of work in relief…Junior Santos allowed one hit over a scoreless inning with a strikeout out of the bullpen.
