Canadians open season with 11-2 win in Salem

June 19, 2015

(Volcanoes Stadium - Keizer, OR) - Five scoreless innings thrown by Vancouver RHP Clinton Hollon combined with the 14 hits pounded out by the offense helped the Canadians open up the 2015 season with a convincing 11-2 victory over Salem-Keizer.

All nine Canadians hitters managed hits on Thursday nights with five players recording multi-hit evening's including CF Earl Burl who grabbed a pair of base hits and scored three runs in his first professional game.

Canadians RHP Clinton Hollon went five innings allowing just two hits while striking out seven in his first game since undergoing Tommy John surgery. The former 2nd round prospect hadn't pitched in a game since August of 2013.

Vancouver's offense was aggressive much like they were in 2014 as John Schneider put his runners in motion going 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts in the opener. C's 3B Alex Maldonado had three stolen bases in the victory.

For the Volcanoes, the Canadians have been a tough draw in home openers, as Salem-Keizer fell to Vancouver 11-2 in the 2014 home opener as well.

The Canadians send LHP Evan Smith (0-0) to the mound in game two of this five game series as Vancouver shares the early North Division lead with both Everett and Spokane who won both of their home openers respectively.

First pitch from Keizer, Oregon is set for 6:35pm pacific.
