Spokane's utility player snags weekly award
July 16, 2014

Spokane, WA - The Northwest League announced that utility player Seth Spivey of the Spokane Indians has been named Player of the Week for July 7-13. Spivey hit 14-for-26 in the six games played to post a more than astounding slash line of .538/.600/.692. The 2014 10th-round pick collected two doubles, a triple, five RBI and seven runs during the stretch.

The Abilene Christian product, who plays catcher and second base, is the Northwest League leader with a .373 batting average, and is fourth with an on-base percentage of .439. Spivey's leadership and consistency have kept the Indians in the North Division's top spot since the season began on June 13. The 22-year-old celebrated his birthday on July 6 by hitting his first home run of the season in a victory over the Vancouver Canadians.

Spivey hit a stellar .341 in the 2013-14 season for Abilene Christian University, driving in 33, scoring 44 times and even swiping 11 bases. His .346 on-base percentage led the team, and in 205 at-bats only struck out 26 times while drawing 21 walks.

Spivey is the second Spokane Indians player to receive the NWL Player of the Week honor. Jose Trevino (June 30-July 6) earned the honor last week.

Helmis Rodriguez of the Tri-City Dust Devils earned NWL Pitcher of the Week honors.

The Spokane Indians resume play tonight at 6:15 PM as they continue a five-game series with the Boise Hawks. You can listen to all Indians away games on SportsRadio 1510 KGA with the Voice of the Indians, Mike Boyle.

The Indians will return home on Saturday, July 19th against the Everett AquaSox for Fireworks Night presented by S-R Media/The Spokesman-Reviw, KREM-2 TV and 98.9 KKZX.
