Chicago White Sox Recall RHP Dylan Axelrod

April 27, 2012

(Fort Mill, SC) - The Chicago White Sox announced earlier today that Charlotte Knights RHP Dylan Axelrod was recalled to Chicago. Axelrod becomes the first Charlotte Knights player to be promoted to the White Sox this season. Matt Zaleski has been promoted to Charlotte from Birmingham to take Axelrod's roster spot.

Axelrod, a member of the White Sox 40-man roster, was 2-1 with a 1.08 ERA in four starts at the time of his promotion. The California native was currently second in the International League in ERA, third in strikeouts and fourth in innings pitched. He takes the place of Jesse Crain in Chicago, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to April 21) by the White Sox earlier today.

In his last start, back on April 22, Axelrod allowed just four hits over 7.2 shutout innings en-route to his second victory of the season. The 7.2 innings pitched is the longest by a Knights starter this season.

The 26-year-old made his Major League debut last season with Chicago on September 7 at Minnesota. He appeared in four games for the White Sox and posted a 1-0 mark with a 2.89 ERA (18.2 innings pitched). Axelrod began the 2011 season with Birmingham and went 3-2 with a 3.34 ERA in 11 games. He was then promoted to Charlotte and posted a 6-1 mark with a 2.27 ERA before his September promotion to Chicago.
