McCullough named Manager of the Year

Flores and Avendano named NWL All-Stars as well
August 29, 2012
(County Stadium - Yakima, WA) - The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club is proud to announce that Clayton McCullough has been named Northwest League Manager of the Year. As well, SS Jorge Flores and RHP Javier Avendano have been named to the Northwest League All-Star Team for the 2012 season.

"I'm humbled and extremely proud to have my peers from around the league see me in this light", says McCullough as he was gearing up along with the C's for a game against the Yakima Bears.

"I've been fortunate to work with a great staff, tremendous players and have felt support from the Toronto Blue Jays and Vancouver Canadians organization right from the first pitch".

This marks the second straight accolade for McCullough as the 31-year old was named the Florida State League Manager of the Year in 2011.

SS Jorge Flores was recently named the Canadians Fans Choice Award Winner for his stellar play and commitment to the organization.

On Wednesday, Flores was voted the NWL's top shortstop after hitting .262 with three home runs and 17 RBI. Flores glove is largely the reason he was voted top shortstop with excellent range and a strong arm, Flores took away more runs from opposing teams then he knocked in.

RHP Javier Avendano has one NWL start remaining but at 7-1 with a 1.23 ERA on the season, that was more than enough to give the native of Venezuela the accolade.

With 87 strikeouts, Avendano leads the NWL in strikeouts, is 2nd in ERA behind only teammate RHP Taylor Cole and has held NWL hitters to a .198 batting average over 15 games this season.

The Vancouver Canadians wish to congratulate Clayton, Jorge and Javier for a fantastic season and representing our organization in the highest light.
