AUGUSTA, Ga. - For the first time ever, the Augusta GreenJackets will be holding its annual national anthem auditions in the Augusta Mall. Auditions will be open to all ages on Saturday, March 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be located in the court in front of JCPenney's.
Also new to the GreenJackets' national anthem auditions this year are giveaways. The GreenJackets will be giving out tickets and food vouchers to Opening Night on April 4 throughout the auditions. The Augusta Mall is also providing a prize at the auditions- a $100 Chop House gift card. In addition to the gift card giveaway, the Augusta Mall is letting fans enter a drawing for the chance to win a $5,000 shopping spree, which will be pulled at a later time.
"We decided to giveaway tickets to Opening Night at our national anthem auditions to show our appreciation to all of the people who come and tryout," General Manager Bob Flannery said. "The GreenJackets are so grateful to have so many talented performers, who come out and audition every year. We look forward to seeing our returning performers, as well as hearing those who are auditioning for the first time."
Auditions will be done on a first-come, first-serve basis. Groups and individuals auditioning will be asked to sing The Star-Spangled Banner acapella in front of three judges. Those auditioning should be prepared to sing the entire song. However, performers may be asked to stop early depending on the number of auditions.
Prior to auditioning, performers will be required to fill out a form with basic information in order to be contacted if they are selected to sing during one of the 70 home games. Those who are selected will be informed next week. This will be the only audition to sing the national anthem at Lake Olmstead Stadium for the 2013 season.
Season tickets for the 2013 season are currently on sale, while individual tickets will go on sale on March 25. For more information on GreenJackets tickets call (706) 922-WINS.
