08/22/2013 10:03 PM ET

STOCKTON, Calif. - Not even Brett Anderson (0-1) could prevent a San Jose Giants sweep on Thursday night at Banner Island Ballpark. The left-hander, pitching for the Stockton Ports on a Major League rehab assignment, allowed five runs over 3.1 innings as the Ports dropped their fifth straight game by a count of 8-1.

Anderson began the game by striking out the side in the first inning, throwing 11 of his 16 pitches in the frame for strikes. In the second, however, Anderson gave up a one-out double to Devin Harris. Two batters later with two outs, Anderson walked Elliott Blair and then gave up an infield single to Myles Schroder that loaded the bases. Bobby Haney came up and hit a two-run double to center that gave the Giants a 2-0 lead.

After setting the side down in order with a pair of strikeouts in the third, Anderson began the fourth by striking out Harris. Jeff Arnold came up next and homered to right to stretch the San Jose lead to 3-0. After Blair drew a walk, Schroder hit a two-run homer to left that made it a 5-0 Giants lead and knocked Anderson from the contest.

Anderson suffered the loss, going 3.1 innings and allowing five runs on five hits while walking two and striking out six. He threw 63 pitches, 36 for strikes.

Giants starter Ty Blach (12-3), meanwhile, after yielding a pair of singles, retired 14 batters in a row, taking him one out deep into the sixth.

San Jose continued to stretch its lead as they got a run in the fifth off Josh Bowman, who came on in relief of Anderson, on an RBI double from Harris. In the seventh, Mac Williamson led off with a double to left and Harris drove him in two batters later with a two-run homer to left that increased the San Jose advantage to 8-0.

Bowman went 5.2 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out four.

Blach pitched around an error, a single and a walk in the seventh inning as Stockton loaded the bases with one out. Dusty Robinson struck out and Phil Pohl flew out to right to end the inning and Blach's outing.

Blach picked up the win, going seven shutout innings and allowing four hits while striking out six.

After Luis Rojas pitched a scoreless eighth, Stephen Harrold came on for the ninth and gave up a leadoff single to Antonio Lamas, who scored three batters later on a sac-fly from Pohl that spoiled San Jose's shutout bid. Harrold struck out Wade Kirkland to end the ballgame.

After being swept by the Giants, the Ports welcome the Visalia Rawhide to Banner Island Ballpark for a four-game set that will conclude the home portion of the 2013 schedule. Tanner Peters (11-6, 4.00 ERA) makes the start for Stockton, opposed by Visalia right-hander Eddie McKiernan (6-3, 3.94 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PDT.
