Calling All Local Families!

February 4, 2014

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - When longtime Major League star Nick Swisher first stepped onto a Major League Baseball field as a player, a couple here in Vancouver watched every moment of his breakthrough.

When A.J. Griffin first took to the mound in Oakland, again, a family just blocks away from Scotiabank Field cheered as if one of their own had just fulfilled a dream.

Each summer, the Vancouver Canadians ask local families to come forward and be a part of our team by becoming a Housing Family. The premise is simple - help us provide a home to one of our up-and-coming Toronto Blue Jays prospects and feel what life is like on the road toward the Major Leagues.

"We have been extremely lucky to have a number of local families open up their homes for the summer and become a part of our success," says Canadians Director of Community Relations Jeff Holloway.

"Our players play a hectic schedule over the course of the summer and for many of them this is their first experience in professional baseball - so things are coming at them pretty fast. The fact that we have a number of families that welcome them home, share our city and culture with each player is really something these athletes never forget regardless of how many years they go onto play".

What goes into becoming a Vancouver Canadians Housing Family?

First and foremost, you will need to have a bedroom with a place for our player or players to stay. We'd like for you to become a part of this players overall experience in Vancouver as well! Have breakfast with him, show him the city and enjoy our complimentary Season Tickets and cheer him on all summer long.

This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, to have a professional baseball player stay right in your own home for a summer while he pursues his childhood dream.

Whether you are a large family, or a couple that loves baseball and being an ambassador for our team and city - we would love to hear from you! Please be remotely close to our stadium as we will have to get your player to and from the ballpark.
