Five Local High School Students to Receive $500 Scholarship
February 10, 2014

Spokane, WA - For the ninth consecutive year, Banner Bank and the Spokane Indians will team up to reward deserving high school seniors with college scholarships. Five area students will be selected to receive a $500 scholarship based on achievement in four areas: scholarship, leadership, character, and community development.

"There's no better way to give back to the community than rewarding talented individuals with the opportunity to pursue a higher education," said Kirk Quillin, Banner Bank Senior Vice President.

"It's been nearly a decade since we've partnered with Banner Bank on this project," said Indians Senior Vice President Otto Klein. "We love seeing area high school kids continue their education."

In the eight previous years that Banner Bank and the Spokane Indians have worked together to award the scholarships, 41 area students have received a total of $20,500 towards their college tuition.

Natalie Hoogner, one scholarship recepient last year, is currently pursuing a degree in Speech-Language Pathology, with a minor in spanish, at Washington State University.

"I loved my first semester at WSU, made many new friends, and I did well in my classes," Hoogner wrote in a recent thank you letter. "I'm already enjoying my second semester, and I cannot thank the Spokane Indians and Banner Bank enough for their thoughtfulness and assistance!"

The scholarships are open to any student who attends a high school in Spokane County. Students interested in receiving a Banner Bank Scholarship application should contact their school's scholarship coordinator or email Dustin Toms at [email protected] for more information.
