2013 Ports Represent At A's Spring Training

Russell and Maxwell were extended non-roster invitations for 2014 Spring Training.

Two members of the 2013 Ports team, shortstop Addison Russell and catcher Bruce Maxwell, have been extended a non-roster invitations to this year's Cactus League.

Russell was drafted 11th overall in the first round of the 2012 MLB draft by the Oakland Athletics. Russell was named to the 2013 All-Star Week Future's game and California League Postseason All-Star roster. He also received the honor of California League Rookie of the Year and Baseball America's Top California League Prospect.

During his time in Stockton, he hit .275 with 29 doubles, 10 triples, 17 home runs, and 21 stolen bases. Russell finished the 2013 season with the Sacramento River Cats, Oakland's Triple-A Affiliate, where he appeared in three games.

Maxwell was a second round draft pick during the 2012 First-Year Player Draft and was the number 15 prospect coming into the 2013 season.

Catcher Bruce Maxwell started the season with Single-A Beloit, hitting .286 with 14 doubles and 28 RBI in 57 games. Maxwell ended the season with the Ports with a .263 average, 5 homeruns, and 8 doubles in 47 games.

Oakland's Spring Training schedule begins Wednesday, February 26th.
