Hessman homer not enough; Hens drop finale in Indy

April 12, 2014

Toledo slugger Mike Hessman hammered his second home run of the season Saturday night in Indianapolis, but it wasn't enough as the Indians downed the Hens, 6-3 in an International League West matchup.

Indianapolis, which sits atop the IL West at 9-1 overall, collected 10 hits helping produce a run in each of the first three innings, leading to an early 3-0 lead.

The Hens (2-7) trailed 5-1 in the fifth inning before Hessman smacked a 2-run shot to left field, cutting Indianapolis' lead to 5-3.

But the Indians responded in the sixth when Jhan Marinez hit Matt Hague with the bases loaded, plating Indy's final run.

Hessman finished 1-for-4 as Toledo tallied just five hits. Hernan Perez, Jordan Lennerton, Danny Worth and Brandon Douglas also had one hit each for the Hens.

Toledo starting pitcher Robbie Ray made his second Triple-A start going four innings, while allowing three runs on seven hits. He is 1-1 on the year with a 3.00 ERA.

The Hens open a three-game set in Louisville Sunday with first pitch at 2:05 p.m.
