Altoona Bow & Arrowed by Binghamton in Series Finale

Curve, Pa. - Altoona dropped the series finale to the Binghamton Mets 7-4 on Sunday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. With the loss, the Curve dropped three of the four games in the series and lost the season series to the B-Mets six-games-to-four.

Binghamton got off to a quick start by tagging Curve starter Pat Ludwig. The B-Mets scored four runs in the second inning on five hits in the inning while sending all nine men to the plate. Ludwig also stumbled in the third when Binghamton struck for two more runs to take a 6-0 lead.

The Curve got a run back in the bottom of the third inning. After Alen Hanson reached on an error, he scored on a two-out double by Matt Curry down the left field line.

Binghamton got a run back in the sixth to take a 7-1 lead but the Curve managed to get a run across in the seventh. Willy Garcia led off the frame with a single that deflected into center field and he scored from first on an RBI double off the bat of Stetson Allie.

Altoona plated their final runs of the game in the ninth inning. Jarek Cunningham led off the inning with a triple and scored one batter later on a groundout by Ralph Henriquez. With the bases empty, Justin Howard drew a pinch-hit walk and scored two batters later on a double by Kelson Brown.

Ludwig (0-3) took the loss after he allowed six runs on seven hits over three innings. B-Mets starter Matt Bowman (6-5) earned the win after he held the Curve to two runs on six hits while striking out nine in seven innings of work.

Altoona (29-52) dropped the series to Binghamton (48-33) after they struck out 44 times in the series and will embark on a four-game series with the Bowie Baysox beginning tomorrow night at Prince George's Stadium. RHP Joan Montero (2-3, 4.57) will start for the Curve against Bowie southpaw Anthony Vasquez (2-5, 4.95). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. while pregame while pregame on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM, and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.

The Curve will return to Peoples Natural Gas Field on Friday, July 4 to begin a homestand with the Harrisburg Senators and Erie SeaWolves. Friday's game will feature the Epic Postgame Fireworks Extravaganza presented by Pennsylvania Lottery with a Hat-off-the-Head Auction with special Fourth of July-themed hats.
