Throwing errors too much for Hens to overcome

July 8, 2014

Louisville proved to be too much for Toledo as the Bats outscored the Mud Hens, 4-3 Tuesday night.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Hens' Mike Hessman was thrown out at home after attempting to score from second base on a Jordan Lennerton single. The Hens then took the lead when Wade Gaynor hammered a 2-run home run over the left-field wall off of Bats reliever Elvin Ramirez.

In the bottom of that inning, the Bats scored two unearned runs off of Mike Belfiore when Hessman committed a throwing error on a single hit by Jason Bourgeois, allowing Hernan Iribarren to advance to third base. Bourgeois was safe second base.

Iribarren scored on a fielder's choice; Jason Bourgeois scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Neftali Soto.

Centerfielder Ezequiel Carrera hit his fourth triple of the season in the sixth inning. He later scored on a Tyler Collins single.

Derek Hankins threw six innings surrendering seven hits and two earned runs. Hankins did not walk any batters, collected no strikeouts and did not get a decision. Belfiore was handed the loss.

Toledo (44-50) will conclude its final game of the road series against Louisville (49-44) tomorrow night at 7:05.
