Bloxom Named League Player of the Week

Bloxom Receives Second Weekly Honor of His Career
July 21, 2014

Justin Bloxom has been named Carolina League Player of the Week for July 14-20. Bloxom went 9-for-21 with seven of his nine hits going for extra bases. The Phoenix, AZ native registered five doubles, a triple and a home run during the week while notching six RBIs in six games. Bloxom has produced the go-ahead RBI to give the Hillcats the lead for good in three of the last four games.

Bloxom's hitting display not only gave him a .429 batting average for the week, but he also posted an impressive .905 slugging percentage during the six-game stretch. Bloxom signed with the Braves organization on June 26, 2014 after being released by the Washington Nationals organization four days earlier.

Originally selected by the Nationals in the 11th round of the 2009 draft, Bloxom spent parts of three seasons with the organization's Double-A affiliate, the Harrisburg Senators. He was hitting .252 with one home run and 10 RBIs in 35 games with the Senators this year before his release.

This is the second Player of the Week honor for Bloxom, as he was also named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week on June 21, 2010. Bloxom made the South Atlantic League Post-Season All-Star Team that season after hitting .309 for the Hagerstown Suns with 29 doubles, 11 home runs and 70 RBIs.

The Lynchburg Hillcats return to City Stadium Tuesday night to begin a three-game set against the Salem Red Sox at 7:05pm. Tickets are available by calling 434-528-1144, going to lynchburg-hillcats.com, or by visiting the ticket office at 3180 Fort Avenue in Lynchburg.
