Knights in Indianapolis to Open Four-Game Series Monday
July 21, 2014

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE. NC) - LHP Jarrett Casey, who posted a 1-0 record with one save and a 1.98 ERA in 20 games for the Birmingham Barons this season, has been promoted to the Charlotte Knights today. Casey, 26, takes the roster spot of RHP Daniel McCutchen, who was placed on the disabled list today.

Also on Monday, infielder Justin Jirschele was assigned to Winston-Salem (A+), which makes room for infielder Carlos Sanchez on Charlotte's roster. Sanchez was optioned to the Knights after Chicago's game on Saturday. Jirschele (pronounced Jersh LEE) recorded his first career Triple-A hit in Sunday's game with the Knights. He went 1-for-1 with an RBI single in Sunday's finale against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Sanchez is hitting .291 (102-for-351) with 48 runs scored, 13 doubles, six triples, five home runs, 42 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases over 89 games with the Knights this year.

A native of Indianapolis, IN, Casey will return home today as he joins the Knights as they open a four-game series with the Indianapolis Indians tonight at 7:05 p.m. from Victory Field in Indianapolis, IN. Casey is now the fourth Indiana native on Charlotte's roster (Dan Black, Micah Johnson, and Josh Phegley are the others). Black, Johnson, and Casey are all from Indianapolis, while Phegley is from Terre Haute, IN. Casey started this season with the Winston-Salem Dash and posted a 1-0 record with two saves and a 0.00 ERA in six games (8.0 IP). He was originally drafted in the 32nd round of the 2010 draft by the White Sox.

McCutchen (0-1, 10.71) started for the Knights on Sunday and gave up 11 runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings. Sunday's start was his fourth of the season with the Knights. He was signed by the Chicago White Sox as a free agent on June 27 and assigned to Charlotte.
