FRISCO, TEXAS (JULY 28, 2014) - Rangers left-handed pitcher Derek Holland will make a major league rehab start for the Frisco RoughRiders in their game against the Midland RockHounds on Wednesday, July 30 at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Holland is recovering from arthroscopic microfracture surgery on his left knee on January 10. The Rangers placed him on the 60-day disabled list at the start of this season.

The game against Midland is slated to begin at 7:05 p.m. and tickets for the contest remain available. Fans may purchase tickets at the Dr Pepper Ballpark box office, by calling (972) 334-1900 or by visiting www.RidersBaseball.com.

Holland played in the minor leagues for two years before the Rangers called him up in 2009. He made his major league debut on April 22, 2009.

During the previous season, the Ohio native pitched in Frisco for a short but effective period of time. In four game with the 'Riders, the lefty went 3-0 with a 0.69 ERA. He gave up only two earned runs on 14 hits while striking out 29 batters. The Texas League named Holland its Pitcher of the Week for August 11-17. He ended the year leading all Rangers minor leaguers in ERA (2.27) and strikeouts (157).

The Rangers selected Holland in the 25th round of the 2006 June draft. The 27-year-old pitched in both of the Rangers' World Series appearances. He has gone 3-0 with a 3.79 ERA in 13 playoff games, four of those for starts. In Game 4 of the 2011 World Series, the "Dutch Oven" tossed 8 1/3 shutout innings against the Cardinals and allowed only two hits in the win.

Holland is a five-year major league veteran and has spent that entire time with the Rangers, going 49-38 with a 4.36 ERA.

The RoughRiders are in the midst of a three-game home stand that continues through Wednesday, July 30. For information on how to see the RoughRiders in 2014, please call (972) 731-9200, e-mail [email protected] or visit www.RidersBaseball.com.
