Danks Ties Hits Record in 4-1 Loss on Wednesday

July 30, 2014

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Jordan Danks entered Wednesday's game as the all-time leader in Charlotte Knights franchise history in games played, triples, walks, and runs scored. He added another achievement to his belt on Wednesday.

Danks ripped the 439th hit of his Knights career in the eighth inning of Wednesday's game to tie Joe Borchard for the all-time franchise hits record, but the Charlotte Knights fell just short of the Durham Bulls by a score of 4-1 in game two of their four-game series from BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte.

Charlotte Knights franchise history was made on Wednesday in front of a crowd of 9,729 fans, as Danks, who was playing in his 450th career Knights game, singled in his final at-bat of the night. The Austin, TX native is now just one hit away from adding the all-time hits mark to his bevy of accomplishments. His next hit will be the 440th of his Knights career.

Despite the historic base hit by Danks late in the game, Durham starter Alex Colome (5-3, 3.25) had the spotlight on him for most of the evening. Colome kept the Knights at bay -- allowing just one run over seven innings. His solid start helped the Bulls bounced back from a game one loss to the Knights on Tuesday.

Making just his ninth start of the season with the Bulls, Colome allowed just two hits over his seven solid frames en route to his fifth win of the season. He gave up the only Charlotte run of the game in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly RBI by Josh Phegley. The Knights managed just three hits on the night.

Charlotte starter Shawn Hill (3-5, 5.07) allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits over six innings and was saddled with the loss. He gave up runs in back-to-back innings (second and third) to the Bulls. Durham shortstop Hak-Ju Lee had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Bulls to their 59th win of the season.

The two teams will continue their series on Thursday with a 7:05 p.m. game. RHP Bobby Doran (2-1, 8.36) gets the start for the Knights against LHP Mike Montgomery (9-3, 3.77). Gates open at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday and the Knights will host another Thirsty Thursday ™ thanks to Hickory Tavern. It's also Jimmy Buffett night at the ballpark. Pre-game radio coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 730 AM, WRHI (94.3 FM and 1340 AM) and online at www.charlotteknights.com. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and Knights radio broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action.
