Indians Lose Series Opener To Aquasox

Spokane collects 13 hits, but fail to snap current three-game slide
August 8, 2014

Spokane, WA - Fresh off a three-day All-Star break, the Spokane Indians failed to capitalize on 13 hits and fell to the Everett AquaSox 7-3 in front of 4,863 fans on Kids Night & OTTO's Birthday presented by Cloverdale Foods, 103.9 BOB FM and 790 The Eagle.

Spokane started off on the wrong foot, as starter Jason Hoppe gave up a two-out, three-run home run to Everett's Adam Martin in the first inning. Martin, a former Summer League teammate of Hoppe, ended his night with five total RBI. Hoppe tossed three innings, giving up five runs on five hits.

The Spokane offense collected 13 hits, two more than Everett's 11, but scored four less runs than the visiting squad. Spokane had the bases loaded with no outs in the fifth inning, but a double play quickly ended the threat. The Indians left 13 runners, in scoring position, on base.

Luke Tendler hit his eighth home run of the season, placing him second in the Northwest League. Jose Trevino, who added an RBI hit on the evening, leads the league with nine long balls. Pepe Cardona collected the third RBI, a double to deep center to score Tendler in the ninth.

Seth Spivey, the league leader in batting average at .355 added two hits, one triple and two walks before being ejected for arguing a called third strike late in the game. Newcomer Josh Morgan provided a quick spark, garnering three hits in four at-bats after being thrusted into the lineup five hours after landing in Spokane.

Austin Pettibone pitched three innings and allowed one run. Ryan Ledbetter and Nick Dignacco kept the AquaSox scoreless through the final three frames.

The Spokane Indians play again tomorrow night with a first pitch set for 6:35 PM. It's Fireworks Night presented by Toyota, The Big 99.9 Coyote Country and ESPN 700/ESPN 1080. Come out and enjoy another amazing fireworks display!
