Former Charlotte Hoops Star Matt Carroll to Throw Out the First Pitch Saturday

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - The Charlotte Knights are set to welcome former Charlotte shooting guard Matt Carroll to BB&T Ballpark on Saturday, August 23 to throw out a ceremonial first pitch. Along with Carroll, Hugo the Hornet and members of the Honey Bees will also be on hand for the game to meet and greet fans. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. for Saturday's 7:05 p.m. contest against the Norfolk Tides.

Carroll, a product of the University of Notre Dame, made his NBA debut with the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2003-04 season and appeared in 13 games for the team that season. The Pittsburgh, PA native also played for the San Antonio Spurs and the Roanoke Dazzle of the NBDL before bringing his talents to Charlotte in 2005. Carroll won NBDL MVP honors in the 2004-05 season with the Dazzle after leading all scorers in points (20.1).

As a member of the Charlotte Bobcats, Carroll was a fan-favorite and played for the team from 2005-2009, and again from 2010-2012. Currently, Carroll is the Community Ambassador for the Charlotte Hornets. In his role as the club's Community Ambassador, Carroll represents the team at community programs such as youth basketball camps, educational events, hospital visits, charity outings, speaking engagements and fundraising galas. The 33-year-old also has a presence on the team's website and on the team's radio broadcasts.

Saturday's game will also feature Hugo the Hornet, who recently made a triumphant return to the Charlotte area, along with the lovely Honey Bees. Fans will have a chance to meet Hugo and the Honey Bees at 6:00 p.m. when BB&T Ballpark gates open. As with all Saturday home games this season, fans will also have a chance to meet the Hickory Tavern KnightinGals, who will perform for the final time this year, as well as Charlotte Knights mascot Homer the Dragon. For $20, fans can also take part in the team's Mystery Ball raffle, which features autographs baseballs of notable Major League and Minor League players. Proceeds of the Mystery Ball raffle benefit the Hospitality House of Charlotte and Knights Charities.

Charlotte RHP Chien-Ming Wang (12-8, 4.21) is scheduled to start the game for the Knights against Norfolk starter Steve Johnson (0-1, 7.39).
