Indians Beat Volcanoes on Record-Setting Night

Spokane enjoys highest attended season in the team's history
August 30, 2014

Spokane, WA - After a shaky start, and thanks to some stellar defense, David Perez earned his first win since 2012 as the Spokane Indians topped the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 11-5 on a record-breaking season finale night in front of 7,072 fans at Avista Stadium on Friday night. It was Season Finale Fireworks presented by AAA, KREM 2-TV and 98.9 KKZX.

With the night's attendance, the largest crowd of the season, the Indians broke two team attendance records. The Indians welcomed 193,865 fans through the gates throughout 37 games this season, breaking the overall attendance record originally set in 2007. Spokane also broke another all-time record by averaging 5,240 fans to each game, the highest total in the team's 112-year history.

Perez started the game by loading the bases with no outs, and would allow two runs. After a pop fly, Luke Tendler caught a fly out in right field and gunned down Christian Arroyo at the plate for a double play to end the threat. Perez would load the bases with no outs again in the second, but the Volcanoes again failed to capitalize in a huge way after Hunter Cole was called out at home. Perez finished with six punch outs in five innings while allowing five hits.

The Indians put the game away in the third inning after Juremi Profar connected on a two-RBI double followed by a two-run moonshot from Fernando Vivili. Vivili finished with two hits to help push his average to .219 on the season.

Spokane started hot, collecting three runs in the first inning from a Jose Trevino double and singles from Tendler and Josh Morgan. It was Trevino's team-high 22nd double of the year. Chuck Moorman hit a pinch-hit solo home run in the eighth inning.

Pepe Cardona made his first appearance since suffering a concussion on August 13 in Tri-City. He went 1-for-2 after he pinch hit for Tendler.

The Spokane Indians will head on the road for the final three games of the season to face the Vancouver Canadians. You can listen to all Indians away games on SportsRadio 1510 KGA with the Voice of the Indians, Mike Boyle.

The Indians will return home next Wednesday, September 3rd to host its first TicketsWest Northwest League Playoff game since 2010. Spokane's opponent is still unknown. Tickets are still available by clicking here or calling the Spokane Indians Ticket Office at (509) 343-OTTO (6886).
