February 12, 2015

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Bobby Richardson, an eight-time American League All-Star, who won the 1960 World Series MVP as a member of the New York Yankees, will meet fans and sign autographs at BB&T Ballpark on Sunday, July 19 during the team's Faith and Family Night. Richardson, who spent his entire 12-year career with the Yankees, racked up 1,432 hits in 1,412 games played at the Major League level.

"We are very pleased to welcome Bobby Richardson to BB&T Ballpark on Sunday, July 19 as part of our Faith and Family Night," stated Knights Chief Operating Officer Dan Rajkowski. "Richardson had a tremendous and successful career and he embodies everything our young fans can look up to as a baseball player and a person."

Richardson, a native of Sumter, South Carolina, was a five-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner over his career. A three-time World Series champion (1958, 1961, and 1962), Richardson hit .367 with 12 RBIs during the 1960 World Series to earn MVP honors despite New York's loss to Pittsburgh in seven games. To this day, the 79-year-old is the only player to notch the World Series MVP for a losing team.

Most recently, Richardson, who is a leader in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, wrote a book titled Impact Player. In the book, Richardson shares memories about many of his Yankees teammates, including Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, Yogi Berra, and Roger Maris.

Sundays are also Sunbelt Family Sundays, presented by Sunbelt Rentals. Tickets to the 5:05 p.m. game on July 19 are on sale now and can be purchased online at charlotteknights.com, by phone at 704-274-8282, or in person at the BB&T Ballpark Ticket Office located at 324 S. Mint St.
