ESPN Myrtle Beach remains Pelicans' flagship

March 3, 2015

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (MARCH 3, 2015) - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, are pleased to announce the renewal of their partnership with Digity to have all Pelicans games in 2015, including potential postseason contests, broadcast on 1450 WRNN-AM ESPN Myrtle Beach. Joining Nathan Barnett in the booth this season will be new Media Relations and Broadcasting Assistant Mason Robinson.

The partnership between the Pelicans and Digity began in 2014. The Pelicans aired all 138 regular season games and each of the seven postseason contests on 1450 WRNN-AM Myrtle Beach with a 20 minute pre-game and 20 minute postgame show. Additionally, "The Taste of the Pelicans" a weekly talk show with players, coaches, and staff from the team, aired each Wednesday home game date live from Abuelo's at the Coastal Grand Mall from noon-1:00 p.m. (preliminary schedule attached). The Pelicans flagship station was also home to a kickoff event at TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark last March with a play-by-play broadcast of a youth baseball game and a two-day live remote this past January from Chicago at the Cubs Convention.

"We're thrilled to continue our partnership with ESPN Radio and Digity," said Pelicans President and General Manager Andy Milovich. "Year one proved that they are a great fit with respect to both the broadcasts and our promotional schedule as we hoped and suspected. We are excited about continuing and growing this partnership during the upcoming season and beyond."

1450 WRNN-AM ESPN Myrtle Beach is the lone ESPN radio affiliate in the Myrtle Beach area and broadcasts mostly syndicated national ESPN Radio programming including "Mike & Mike," "The Herd," and "SVP & Russillo."

The broadcast schedule begins Thursday, March 5, with a play-by-play broadcast of the Pelicans Travel Baseball Club in an exhibition game and Swings for Charity at TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. The broadcast will air from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

"Digity Media is pleased to continue our partnership with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in 2015," said Marketing Manager Josh Gertzog. "Digity is a company focused on contributing and partnering with the local community, and nothing says 'Myrtle Beach' like the Pelicans. We hope to continue this relationship for years to come, because as our motto states '...we live here too!'"

In addition to catching the Pelicans broadcasts on terrestrial radio, fans can access the feed online and on mobile devices, free of charge, at www.ESPNMyrtleBeach.com, on the WRNN TuneIn Radio channel / TuneIn Radio App, and within the MiLB First Pitch App.

Media Relations Manager and Play-by-play broadcaster Nathan Barnett returns in 2015 as the Voice of the Pelicans, serving as the lead broadcaster for all Pelicans games and host of "Taste of the Pelicans." Unlike in 2014, however, Barnett will not be broadcasting solo.

Joining Barnett for the 2015 season is new Media Relations and Broadcasting Assistant Mason Robinson. He will work alongside Barnett for all Pelicans home games and approximately half of scheduled road contests, calling three innings of play-by-play each night and serving as an analyst for the other six innings. The Austin, Texas, native will also co-host pre- and postgames shows. Outside the booth, Robinson will produce a variety of written content, assist in the team's media relations and social media efforts, as well as produce web and graphic design work.

"Mason brings an incredible skill set to our organization," said Barnett. "He has a big league sound and tremendous feel for being on air, and I feel confident that our fans will enjoy his contributions. His media relations and graphic design abilities will help us take that side of our business and brand to new heights in 2015."

Robinson spent the 2014 season as the Broadcasting Assistant with the San Antonio Missions, the Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. A 2012 Texas State University graduate, Robinson called four years of Bobcat baseball and softball play-by-play, on top of two seasons of volleyball. He also hosted a weekly talk show and basketball halftime reports and co-hosted football pre-game shows for Texas State University. He also spent 2013 as the voice of the Walla Walla Sweets, an independent collegiate summer league team in the West Coast League, located in Walla Walla, Washington.

The Pelicans season begins on April 9th, when the Birds host the Wilmington Blue Rocks for a 7:05 p.m. scheduled first pitch at TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. The game can be heard live on 1450 WRNN-AM ESPN Myrtle Beach, on the TuneIn Radio App, and via the MiLB First Pitch App, beginning with the Hampton Inn Pregame Show at 6:45 p.m. The game will also air along with live streaming video on MiLB.tv.

The 2015 season marks the 17th season for the franchise and first as the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. For information on tickets to see the Pelicans in 2015, please call (843) 918-6000, e-mail [email protected], or visit www.MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
