For the dogs: Riders blanked in sweep

Travelers notch 4-0 victory on Bark in the Park Night
April 12, 2015

FRISCO, TEXAS (APRIL 11, 2015) - The RoughRiders fell to 0-3 to start the season after a 4-0 defeat to the Arkansas Travelers on Saturday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. More than eight thousand fans and 387 dogs witnessed Arkansas' three-hit shutout on the Riders' first-ever Bark in the Park Night in Frisco.

The RoughRiders (0-3) were tasked with coming back from an early deficit for the third night in a row as the Travs (3-0) scored a run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead. Home runs off the bats of Sherman Johnson in the first and Kentrail Davis in the second contributed to the scoring effort. Rockwall-native Jake Thompson (0-1) pitched four-plus innings for the Riders in his first start this season and allowed three runs (two earned) with three strikeouts.

Arkansas starter Tyler DeLoach (1-0) picked up where he left off last season when he led all Angels farmhands in wins. The lefty did not give up a hit until the fifth inning when Jorge Alfaro led off with a double to right-center field. Alfaro was thrown out trying to get to third base on the play and Frisco was held scoreless in the frame. The double was Alfaro's fourth of the young season. DeLoach allowed just one more hit in six scoreless innings and struck out five to earn the win.

Will Lamb was solid in his first appearance of 2015 for the Riders, as he pitched 2.1 innings in relief with four strikeouts, giving up one hit and an earned run.

The dogs in town for Bark in the Park Night weren't the only ones barking in the eighth as Frisco's Tanner Scheppers (on rehab assignment from Texas) was ejected for throwing behind Eric Stamets. Riders manager Joe Mikulik was also ejected while emphatically defending his player. The ejections were the first this season for any RoughRider.

For the first time this season the Riders were held to single-digit hits and no runs.

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals are next in town for the Riders as Frisco looks for its first win of the season on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. Right-hander Jerad Eickhoff takes the mound for Frisco while TCU graduate Brandon Finnegan heads to the bump for the Naturals. The game will be televised on Texas 47 with former Major League pitcher Mike Bacsik joining Alex Vispoli for the call of the game. The game will mark the first Kids Sunday Funday of the season, with a pre-game baseball clinic, catch on the field and $1 ice cream sandwiches all game long.
