Joey Gallo activated off disabled list

Top prospect started year on D.L. after foot surgery
April 25, 2015

FRISCO, TEXAS (APRIL 25, 2015) - Today Frisco RoughRiders third baseman Joey Gallo was activated off the seven-day disabled list and added to the team's 25-man roster. In a corresponding move, infielder Guilder Rodriguez was placed on the seven-day disabled list.

Gallo, 21, underwent surgery on April 3 to remove the Os Trigonum bone in his left foot and has not yet played this season. The Rangers' 2014 Tom Grieve Minor League Player of the Year, Gallo entered the season as the organization's number one prospect according to Baseball America and MLB.com. The 21-year-old slugger combined to hit .271 with 42 home runs and 106 RBI in 126 games with the RoughRiders and Advanced-A Myrtle Beach in 2014. The third baseman has hit 40 or more home runs in each of the past two seasons, becoming the first minor leaguer to accomplish the feat since Ron Kittle of the Chicago White Sox did it in 1981-82. Gallo was a postseason All-Star in both the Texas League and Carolina League and was named the CL MVP last season, winning the circuit's home run title (he finished second in the TL).

Rodriguez, 31, played in ten games for Frisco this season and hit .212 (7 for 33) with three runs batted in.

Frisco's roster remains at the Texas League limit of 25 active players.
