May 17, 2015

Pensacola, FL - The Mississippi Braves bounced back after blowing a 9th inning lead, winning 3-2 in 10 innings over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Sunday afternoon at Bayfront Stadium.

Mallex Smith drove in the go-ahead run off reliever Zack Weiss (0-1) with a lined single through the right side, plating Eric Garcia, who led off the 10th with a walk.

The blown save in the ninth sent starter Tyrell Jenkins home with a no-decision, but he fired seven shutout frames on just three hits. Andrew Robinson (3-1) picked up his third win in relief after blowing his first save in the ninth.

With the Braves (20-16) leading 2-0 in the ninth, the Blue Wahoos (15-22) started the rally with a one-out double on the first pitch to Kyle Skipworth. Ray Chang walked, and Juan Silva drove in Skipworth on a single to cut the lead to 2-1.

Pinch-hitter Marquez Smith forced extras, flying out to center to bring home pinch runner Beau Amaral and tie it 2-2.

The Braves started the scoring in the fifth, with Rio Ruiz driving in Chris O'Dowd with a double. The double snapped an 0-for-25 spell for the 20-year-old third baseman, and it staked the Braves to a 1-0 lead.

Mississippi tacked on an insurance run in the ninth when Seth Loman knocked an RBI double to plate David Rohm for a 2-0 lead.

Tyler Jones nabbed the save, striking out the Wahoos side in the bottom of the 10th for his second door slam of the season.

It was the sixth win in seven tries and third in a row for Mississippi,

The Braves go for the series win in the third of five games Monday night at 6:35 PM CT, with right-hander Jake Brigham (3-2, 4.68) slated to start against Wahoos hurler Robert Stephenson (1-4, 5.65).
