Kayla Ellis' Design Selected in Fifth Third Bank Design-A-Jersey Vote

Jerseys to Be Worn and Auctioned on Stand Up To Cancer Day
June 17, 2015

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps are pleased to announce that Kayla Ellis' jersey design has been chosen by the fans in the Fifth Third Bank Design-A-Jersey Vote. Ellis' design was one of three jerseys fans voted for recently on TinCaps.com. Fort Wayne will wear the jersey designed by Ellis when the team hosts the West Michigan Whitecaps for Stand Up To Cancer Day on Sunday, August 2 at 1:05 p.m at Parkview Field - a day presented by Fifth Third Bank devoted to raising funds and support for cancer research.

Ellis' jersey features the arrows from the Stand Up To Cancer logo on the sleeves and front and back of the jersey. One half of the jersey is red and the other is white. It also reads TinCaps across the chest with numbers on the back etched in black.

Ellis graduated from the University of Saint Francis in May with a B. A. Degree in Communication Arts and Graphic Design. Kayla was born and raised in Fort Wayne and is married to Sean, who's currently serving in the U. S. Navy. Her passion for designing the Stand Up To Cancer jersey honors her grandmother, Marilyn Alber, who passed away when Kayla was a freshman and whose wish it was for Kayla to continue in school and complete her degree.

Kayla and her entire graphic design class at Saint Francis submitted jersey designs. The TinCaps worked with Fifth Third Bank and Stand Up To Cancer to narrow the entries to three for fan voting. More than 1,600 votes were cast and Ellis' design pulled in 51% of the votes.

"We were very excited to partner with the University of Saint Francis and professor Alan Nauts' graphic design class on this project," said TinCaps Vice President of Marketing, Michael Limmer. "The creativity and inspiration of all of the designs were fantastic and a real tribute to the quality of the students' imagination and the design program at USF. Cancer hits home, in some form, with everyone. Unfortunately, we all know a friend or family member who has battled cancer. With Fifth Third Bank and Stand Up To Cancer as partners on this event, we really will have a chance to 'stand up' against this deadly disease, support those that are battling now, and move closer to eliminating it entirely. We hope we can pack Parkview Field on August 2 as a sign of solidarity and support for all those impacted by cancer."

During Fort Wayne's game against West Michigan on August 2, the Ellis-designed jerseys will be auctioned off to fans with all proceeds benefiting cancer research.

"Fifth Third Bank and the TinCaps strive to always represent the community, so it was especially rewarding to have a local fan design the jersey for our second annual Stand Up To Cancer game," said Kevin Hipskind, Fifth Third Market President for Central and Northeast Indiana. "We hope the community will come to Parkview Field on August 2 to see Kayla's design in live game action and support the mission of Stand Up To Cancer."

Since 2013, Fifth Third Bank has contributed more than $4 million to Stand Up To Cancer to support groundbreaking cancer research and treatment options.
