June 27, 2015

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (June 26, 2015) Drew Robinson drove in six runs and belted his 15th home run to help the Frisco RoughRiders complete a 10-8 comeback win against the Corpus Christi Hooks on Friday at Whataburger Field. The Hooks led 8-6 after erasing a six-run deficit in the seventh inning, but Frisco stormed back with a four-run ninth to snap a 10-game losing skid against Corpus Christi.

With the bases loaded, the Riders were down to their last strike when Robinson crushed a 1-2 pitch to deep centerfield. The triple scored four runs including Robinson when Chan Moon picked up his second throwing error of the game. Alex Burg and Preston Beck set up the inning with singles against Ruben Alaniz before relief pitcher Travis Ballew (3-2) entered the game. J.T. Wise drew a walk and with two outs, Robinson tripled to put Frisco back on top.

Three conseuctive walks to begin the seventh inning helped the Hooks jump ahead 8-6. Juan Grullon entered the game after Victor Payano walked two batters, and then proceeded to walk Colin Moran to load the bases. Tyler White singled to left to make it 6-4 and Conrad Gregor tied the game when Trever Adams misplayed a ground ball at first base. Two runs scored and Adams was charged with his second error. Jon Kemmer put the Hooks ahead with a sac fly and Danry Vasquez added an RBI single to put the Hooks up 8-6.

Frisco strung three consecutive two-out hits together in the third inning against Hooks starter Kyle Westwood. An errant throw from Moon allowed Robinson to score from third and Frisco led 1-0. In the fourth inning, Ryan Cordell notched his first career Double-A RBI with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Westwood allowed 10 hits and five runs, four earned, in 4 2/3 innings.

A two-out rally spurred a four-run fifth inning for the RoughRiders. Beck's sac fly put the Riders ahead 3-0, and after Wise walked and Adams singled, Robinson knocked his Texas League-lead sharing 15th home run against Alaniz.

Frisco starter Jose Leclerc allowed just one hit through 4 2/3 before things went south. Moon doubled, Mier walked and Brett Phillips brought home both with a triple. Phillips scored on a passed ball, and Leclerc's evening was over. The right-hander walked three, struck out five and threw 50 of his 85 pitches for strikes.

The RoughRiders snapped a 10-game skid against the Hooks. LHP Frank Lopez (2-1) gets the nod for Frisco on Saturday against Adrian Houser (0-0) and Chris Devenski (7-1). The RoughRiders return home on July 2 to begin a six-game home stand featuring fireworks on July 3, 4 and 5. On July 5, the first 2,000 fans will receive a free Swinging Teddy Bobblehead.
