Jake Skole traded, Zach Cone to join RoughRiders

July 3, 2015

FRISCO, TEXAS (July 3, 2015) - The Texas Rangers announced today that Frisco RoughRiders outfielder Jake Skole has been traded to the New York Yankees for cash considerations. Also, outfielder Zach Cone has been added to the Frisco roster from Advanced-A High Desert. Both are former first round draft selections by the Rangers.

Cone, 25, was selected in the supplemental first round (37th overall) of the 2011 MLB Draft from the University of Georgia. The right-hander batted .286 with 15 home runs, 51 RBI, 45 runs scored and six stolen bases in 73 games for the Mavericks. The former Georgia Bulldog can play all three outfield spots, but has primarily played right field, appearing in 66 games there this season.

The five-year pro owns a career .242 batting average with 48 homers and 198 RBI in 364 games. This season marks the third time in his pro career with double-digit home runs and is three shy of breaking a season-high 17.

Skole, 23, was selected 15th overall in 2010 from Blessed Trinity High School in Georgia. The left-handed batter hit .218 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 57 games for Frisco in 2015. He played the entire 2014 campaign for the RoughRiders, hitting .216 in 103 games as the club's primary centerfielder. Skole owns a .228 batting average in 544 career games and was chosen as the organization's Minor League Defender of the Year in 2013.

The RoughRiders continue their six-game home stand tonight at 7:05 p.m. behind RHP Jake Thompson. Fans can enjoy the first of three consecutive nights with a postgame fireworks show. On Sunday, July 5, the first 2,000 fans will receive a free Swinging Teddy Bobblehead.
