Saladino Recalled, Flurry of Moves Announced on Friday

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Charlotte infielder Tyler Saladino, who is currently third in the International League in stolen bases with 25 this season, has been recalled to the Chicago White Sox today. Saladino, a member of Chicago's 40-man roster, will make his Major League debut today with the White Sox at Wrigley Field against the Cubs.

In a flurry of other roster moves effective today, RHP Scott Carroll, who was optioned down to the Knights on Thursday from Chicago, has been added to Charlotte's active roster. Carroll takes the roster spot of RHP Matt Lindstrom, who was released by Chicago. Infielder Ethan Wilson has been promoted to the Knights from Winston-Salem (A+) to take Saladino's roster spot, and Charlotte RHP Shawn Haviland has been placed on the team's disabled list. Charlotte's active roster is now set at 24 players.

Saladino, 25, was hitting .255 (50-for-196) with 28 runs scored, seven doubles, two triples, four home runs, 29 RBIs, and 25 stolen bases this season for the Knights. The San Diego, CA native was enjoying a solid month of July with the Knights. In eight games this month, Saladino was hitting .323 (10-for-31) with six runs scored, two doubles, two home runs, and 12 RBIs. He homered in back-to-back games (July 7-8), including his first grand slam of the season on July 7.

Originally drafted by Chicago in the seventh round of the 2010 draft, Saladino was named to the 2014 International League All-Star Team last season, but was unable to participate due to injury. Saladino hit .310 (91-for-294) with 41 runs scored, 16 doubles, four triples, nine home runs, 43 RBIs, and seven stolen bases last season with Charlotte in 82 games. A product of Oral Roberts University, Saladino made his professional debut in 2010 with Advanced Rookie Bristol and Single-A Kannapolis and combined to hit .305 in 60 games.

Saladino is the seventh Knights player to be promoted to Chicago this season. LHP Carlos Rodon (April 20), RHP Scott Carroll (April 26 & June 18), RHP Daniel Webb (April 26 & May 28), RHP Chris Beck (May 9 & May 28), infielder Carlos Sanchez (May 15), and RHP Junior Guerra (June 7) are the others. Rodon, Webb, and Sanchez are currently playing for Chicago.

Wilson, 26, has appeared in 17 games with the Dash this season and was hitting .170 (8-for-47) with seven runs scored, one home run, and eight RBIs at the time of today's promotion to Charlotte. The Indiana native was originally drafted by the White Sox in the 25th round of the 2010 draft out of Indiana University.

Carroll posted a 1-1 record with a 3.28 ERA in 12 games with the White Sox this season. The Kansas City, MO native began the 2015 campaign with the Knights and is 3-2 with a 2.67 ERA in six games with the club this year.

Lindstrom, 35, posted a 2-1 record with two saves and a 5.56 ERA in 18 games out of Charlotte's bullpen this season. Lindstrom was signed by the White Sox as a free agent on April 2, 2015. The Rexburg, ID native played for Chicago over parts of the past two seasons and posted a 4-6 record with a 3.80 ERA in 111 games (2013-14). Overall, Lindstrom has appeared in 469 games in the majors over parts of eight seasons and owns a career major league record of 17-21 with 51 saves and a 3.68 ERA in 420.2 innings pitched.

Haviland is 4-5 with a 4.09 ERA in 18 games (12 starts) with the Knights this year. The Farmington, CT native was signed by the White Sox as a free agent on January 12, 2015. He was originally drafted by the Oakland A's in the 33rd round of the 2008 draft out of Harvard University.

The Knights will wrap up the first half of the 2015 season in Norfolk, VA starting tonight at 5:05 p.m. with a doubleheader at Harbor Park against the Norfolk Tides. The two teams will play a three-day, four-game series before the All-Star Break, which runs from Monday, July 13 to Wednesday, July 15. The Knights return home to open an epic eight-game homestand on Thursday, July 16 at BB&T Ballpark.
