Rain suspends game two with Pelicans hosting Mudcats

Game to resume Sunday with Carolina batting in top of fourth
July 11, 2015

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (JULY 11, 2015) - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, had their game with the Carolina Mudcats suspended due to rain on Saturday. The game was suspended with one out in the top of the fourth inning with a runner at first base and the Pelicans leading 1-0. The game will resume on Sunday, July 12, at 5:05 p.m. ET. The resumption of Saturday's game will be a nine-inning contest while the second game will be a seven-inning affair. The second game will be played approximately 30 minutes after the completion of Saturday's suspended contest.

Fans with tickets from Saturday's game can exchange those tickets for a ticket of equal or lesser value to any future Pelicans regular season game during the 2015 regular season or beyond, subject to availability. Tickets to the regularly scheduled game on Sunday, July 12, will be good for both games.

The Pelicans took advantage of a throwing error by first baseman Joey Meneses to break a scoreless tie in the third. Trey Martin began the frame with a bunt single and Mark Zagunis was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat. Two batters later, Jeimer Candelario bounded a ground ball to first base, where Meneses touched the base but threw the ball away from home plate to allow Martin to score the go-ahead run.

With one out in the top of the fourth inning and a runner at first base, rain halted play just before Carolina left fielder Dustin Peterson stepped to the plate. Pelicans starter Daury Torrez had not allowed a hit in the first 3 1/3 innings on the mound. The Bird's right-hander also allowed a pair of walks, both of which were to Mudcats right fielder Connor Lien.

Mudcats starter Brandon Barker scattered four hits while striking out three batters in his three innings of work.

After a one-hour, eight-minute rain delay, the game was officially suspended at 9:24 p.m. ET.

Sunday's games can be heard live on 1450 WRNN-AM ESPN Myrtle Beach, on the TuneIn Radio App, and via the MiLB First Pitch App, beginning with the Pregame Show at 4:45 p.m. ET. The games will also air along with live streaming video on MiLB.tv (subscription required).

Sunday will be Family Sunday, presented by 99.5 WRNN, with an on-field catch available to all fans before the game. After the games, fans can enjoy the East Coast Pyrotechnics Fireworks Extravaganza.
