Mazara goes yard in RoughRiders 4-1 win

Four-run first is all Frisco needs to topple Missions
July 21, 2015

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (July 21, 2015) - The Frisco RoughRiders scored four runs in the first inning and that was all they needed to defeat the San Antonio Missions, 4-1, Tuesday night at Wolff Stadium.

Nick Williams led off the first inning with a single and Nomar Mazara blasted his 11th home run of the season to give Frisco a 2-0 lead. Preston Beck singled and was then knocked in on a Drew Robinson RBI-double. Luis Marte picked up the Riders fifth hit of the frame with a run-scoring single to put Frisco on top 4-0.

The Missions (10-14, 41-54) found the scoreboard in the first inning as well, but only to the tune of one run. Travis Jankowski, playing in his first game with San Antonio since the Pan American Games, laced a lead-off triple and scored on a RBI-ground out from Alberth Martinez to cut into the Riders lead, 4-1.

Jose Leclerc (5-4) looked stellar in his start for the Riders. He picked up the victory over six innings of one-run ball while striking out five and allowing three hits. Leclerc has allowed only one run in his last three starts.

Elliot Morris (3-9) picked up the loss in the contest for San Antonio. Morris allowed four runs on seven hits over seven innings.

Chad James worked two scoreless innings in relief for Frisco. He struck out four and allowed only one hit. David Martinez picked up his Texas League-leading 13th save as he tossed a scoreless ninth inning to finish off the 4-1 victory for the Riders (15-9, 44-50).

RHP Jake Thompson returns to the mound for the Frisco RoughRiders Wednesday after his stint with Team USA at the Pan American Games. RHP Justin Hancock toes the rubber for San Antonio in the 7:05 p.m. start. Frisco returns to Dr Pepper Ballpark July 23 for a seven game home stand against Corpus Christi and Midland. Fans can celebrate Daddy Daughter Date Night on July 25. Dads and daughters will be treated to a meet and greet with Peyton Meyer from Disney Channel's Girl Meets World and can stick around post-game for a Daddy-Daughter Dance in the State Fairway.
