Rockies routed in series finale

July 30, 2015

With the help of a 6-run fifth inning, and 4-run seventh inning, the Ogden Raptors beat the Grand Junction Rockies Wednesday night at Lindquist Field 14-8.

In the fifth, with Javier Medina out of the game, Ogden loaded the bases with nobody out. Gage Green brought in the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly, and Scott De Jong followed with his ninth home run. The last two runs scored when Deivy Castillo doubled home a pair with two out.

De Jong started the seventh inning rally when he reached on an error. Jake Henson, Jordan Tarsovich and Castillo followed with doubles, then Faustino Oguisten capped the inning with a single.

An unearned run in the first inning put the Rockies in front, but Jordan Tarsovich tied the game with a home run in the second inning, and they added a run in the third.

Medina worked out of a bases loaded, no out jam in the fourth. He allowed two runs in four innings of work, but was tagged with his first loss.

The Rockies tallied single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth inning, and put up a 4-spot in the ninth for a third straight night. Jonathan Piron hit a 3-run homer to bring in their final runs of the night.

Piron had three hits, while Mylz Jones, Collin Ferguson and Bobby Stahel had two. Sam Hilliard walked three times and added a triple.

The loss drops the Rockies to 1-1 in the second half, 21-19 overall. They have lost 4-of-5 and will play the opening game of a 2-game series in Orem on Thursday night.
