HILLCATS DROP 4-1 DECISION TO PELICANS
SUMMARY
Lynchburg plated just one run on a solo homer by Joe Sever, but Myrtle Beach pitching held the Hillcats' offense in check as the Pelicans took a 4-1 victory on Saturday night at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.
GOING LONG IN THE FIRST
Mitch Brown (8-11) struggled in his last start in Myrtle Beach and he saw more of the same in the first inning on Saturday night.Brown gave up a single to Pin-Chieh Chen and walked Jason Vosler before Cael Brockmeyer roped a two-RBI single that scored Chen and Vosler to give the Pelicans a 2-0 advantage. Brown threw 30 pitches in the first inning, but was able to make it through five innings in the start. He allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits while walking four and striking out two.
COSTLY ERROR
In the bottom of the second, Daniel Lockhart reached on a walk and stole second base. Lockhart advanced to third on an error by Brown who tried to pick him off at second. Lockhart scored on a wild pitch by Brown to give the Pelicans a 3-0 lead.
SEVER GOES YARD
Joe Sever tried to build some momentum for the Hillcats when he crushed a ball over the left field wall for his second home run in his last four games. Sever has eight home runs for the Hillcats this season and two since returning from Double-A Akron on August 11.
ADDING INSURANCE
Chesney Young walked to lead off the seventh for the Pelicans and Pin-Chieh Chen hammered a triple off the right field wall to score Young from first to extend the lead to 4-1 in favor of Myrtle Beach.
KEEPING UP WITH THE CATS
Joe Sever homered in the fourth inning for his second home run in his last five games…Since returning from Double-A Akron,Sever is hitting 8-for-21 (.381) with a pair of home runs, five RBIs, and six runs scored in five games…Lynchburg mustered just four hits in the contest, marking the first time since July 28 against Salem that the Hillcats have totaled less than five hits in a game.
