CURVE, Pa. -  The Altoona Curve overcame an early three-run deficit to defeat the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 5-3, on Saturday night at The Diamond. Eric Wood finished the night 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.

A three-run sixth inning lifted the Curve (63-57) over the Flying Squirrels (60-59).

After Richmond jumped ahead 3-0 in the first inning, the Curve answered with an RBI double by Wood to pull back within two in the second.

The Curve stormed back ahead in the sixth inning. Jacob Stallings hit an RBI single to pull Altoona within a run. With the bases loaded, Joe Biagini (Loss, 9-6) hit Stetson Allie with a pitch to tie the game.

Wood added a third run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly to put the Curve ahead, 4-3.

Jose Osuna added an insurance run with a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth. He finished the game 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored.

Zack Dodson (Win, 6-10) rebounded from a three-run first inning, finishing the game with 5.2 innings pitched while allowing one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts.

Clario Perez (Save, 1) closed out the Flying Squirrels in the ninth inning.

Second baseman Erich Weiss had two hits and scored a run.

The Curve now sit one game behind Akron for second place in the Western Division and 5.5 games behind first-place Bowie.

Altoona and Richmond play the series rubber game on Sunday afternoon at The Diamond. Right-hander Jason Creasy (8-7, 4.66) takes the mound for the Curve, countered by Richmond lefty Kelvin Marte (9-4, 2.53). First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
