GreenJackets Drop Game Three in Extras

On a Foggy Night the GreenJackets Lose a Close Game to the RiverDogs
September 6, 2015

AUGUSTA, GA: Saturday, September 5th the Augusta GreenJackets (64-72) and the Charleston RiverDogs (66-73) began game three of their series after an hour delay to due field conditions. Once the game had begun the RiverDogs jumped out to a three run lead after three innings of play. A three run seventh inning which included a two run home run from Chase Compton that tied the game for the GreenJackets eventually sent the game into extra innings. It was not until the eleventh inning that the RiverDogs managed to push across the go ahead run to win the game with a score of four to three.

Starting pitcher Michael Santos only lasted three innings on the night for the GreenJackets. Santos left the game with the GreenJackets down three runs and let the bullpen take the reins. Connor Kaden once again put in a solid relief effort for the GreenJackets by pitching four and one third innings allowing no runs. Carlos Diaz also contributed with pitching one and two thirds innings also keeping the RiverDogs scoreless.

In the bottom of the seventh inning while Skyler Ewing was on first base, catcher Matt Winn hit a double to center field that sent Ewing motoring around the bases to score. The double was Winn's seventh of the season since joining the GreenJackets in early August. Matt Winn led the GreenJackets batters with three hits on the night. After Chuckie Jones struck out, designed hitter Chase Compton approached the plate. Compton hit a screaming live drive that made its way over the right field wall for a two run home run and tied the game at three runs a piece.

The score remained tied up through the ninth inning and into extra innings. In the eleventh inning with two outs Dominic Jose hit a two out RBI single to score Donny Sands to put the RiverDogs on top with a score of four to three. In the bottom of the eleventh Brody Koerner gave up a lead off single to Dylan Davis but then retired three straight GreenJackets to finish off the game.

Saturday night's final scoreboard line read three runs, twelve hits, and three errors for the Augusta GreenJackets and four runs, eleven hits, and zero errors for the Charleston RiverDogs. Brody Koerner picks up the win for the RiverDogs and Eury Sanchez takes the loss.
