April 18, 2016

PEARL, MS-Levi Hyams drove in three runs with two doubles to lead the Mississippi Braves to a 5-3 victory over the Lookouts Monday night at Trustmark Park. Chris Ellis held Chattanooga to just one earned run on three hits through six innings to pick up his second win of the season.

Matt Marksberry (S, 1) worked the final two frames and picked up his first save of the season. Willians Astudillo also added a two-hit night at the plate. Mississippi (3-9) scored five runs on eight hits. Chattanooga (4-8) scored three runs on six hits.

The M-Braves took an early 2-0 lead, plating a run in the first and second frames. Ozzie Albies and Hyams both doubled to score the game's first run. Dian Toscano tripled and scored on a Matt Lipka sacrifice fly to score the second run.

Chattanooga made it a one-run game in the fourth. Travis Harrison singled and swiped second. He then came around to score on a Matt Garver base hit up the middle.

Astudillo led off the bottom of the seventh with a double to left field. He moved to third on a groundout and later scored on Johan Camargo's base hit to right, making it a 3-1 game. Albies walked before Hyams delivered a two-run double to center, extending the M-Braves lead to 5-1.

Stuart Turner's two-run homer in the eighth cut the Braves lead to 5-3 but that was as close as the Lookouts would get.

DJ Baxendale (1-2) gave up two earned runs on five hits. He struck out six but took the loss.

The M-Braves send lefty Sean Newcomb (0-0, 1.80) to the hill in game three of this five-game series. He'll counter Lookouts southpaw David Hurlbut (1-0, 4.00). First pitch is set for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
