Fifth Third Bank and Dayton Dragons Team up to "Strike out Hunger"

April 27, 2016

Dayton, Ohio - Fifth Third Bank and the Dayton Dragons have teamed up to "Strike Out Hunger" in the Miami Valley. Friday through Sunday, April 29-May 1, volunteers will be collecting canned goods and non-perishable items on the plaza outside Fifth Third Field. The collection will take place from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday and from 12:30-2:00 p.m. on Sunday. Community members are encouraged to bring out their donations and stay to watch the Dragons take on the Clinton LumberKings. Game time is 7:00 p.m. on Friday, 7:07 p.m. on Saturday, and first pitch on Sunday is set for 2:07 p.m.

Each person who donates will be entered into a raffle to win autographed Dragons prizes.

Fifth Third Bank and the Dayton Dragons have a goal of providing one million meals to families in the Miami Valley. An estimated 50 million Americans, including one in five children, live in "food insecure" households. This means that they are not positive when or where they will be receiving their next meal. For the past 20 years, Fifth Third Bank has put forth a successful effort to support the communities in which they operate.

"In 2016, Fifth Third Bank and our community partners are seeking to raise enough canned goods for one million meals," Doug Compton, Fifth Third Bank's Dayton City Executive, said. "Here in Dayton, in collaboration with the Dragons, we hope to raise awareness of the number of families living in 'food insecure' households and the tremendous year-round mission of The FoodBank."
