Tim Anderson Promoted to Chicago

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Charlotte Knights shortstop Tim Anderson, who was leading the International League in hits with 75, had his contract purchased by the Chicago White Sox today. Anderson will take the roster spot in Chicago of shortstop Jimmy Rollins, who was designated for assignment by the White Sox. Charlotte's roster now consists of 23 active players.

Anderson, a native of Tuscaloosa, AL, is the 12th player promoted to the Chicago White Sox this season. RHP Erik Johnson (April 19, May 5 & May 23), catcher Kevan Smith (April 24), RHP Miguel Gonzalez (April 25 & May 9), catcher Hector Sanchez (April 26), RHP Daniel Webb (April 27), infielder Carlos Sanchez (April 28), RHP Tommy Kahnle (April 29, May 5, May 23 & June 3), RHP Scott Carroll (May 6), LHP Matt Purke (May 13), OF J.B. Shuck (May 30), and OF Jason Coats (June 4), are the others who have been promoted to the White Sox this year.

Overall for the season, Anderson is hitting .304 (75-for-247) with 39 runs scored, four home runs, 20 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases. He is first in the IL in hits (75), first in the IL in at-bats (247), and second in runs scored (39). He has a league-best 25 multi-hit games this season.

Anderson entered the season ranked as the number one prospect in the Chicago White Sox system by Baseball America. Last month, the 22-year-old became the first Knights player this season to earn an International League weekly award. He was the IL Batter of the Week for the period of May 9-15. During the month of May, Anderson hit .349 (45-for-129) with 24 runs scored, three home runs and 13 RBIs (29 games). He hit .297 (11-for-37) in eight games during the month of June.  

The Knights have an off day today and will play a doubleheader on Saturday in Buffalo, NY against the Buffalo Bisons. First pitch of Saturday's twin bill is on tap for 6:05 p.m. from Coca-Cola Field.
